A Poem by Caroline Grimm
"

In this poignant poem, the voice of a pirate captain reveals the profound loneliness that accompanies a life of adventure on the high seas.

"

This pirate captain has been sailing alone for years

and she has cried one too many tears

she can find plenty o’ crews

but they always lose

they always part ways going to seperate seas

as they leave her on her knees

she has ran out of people to ask in the crowd

leaving her thoughts to be spoken aloud

as the population of pirates run low

o’ do those tears flow

every day and every night

till there is nothing left but fright

fright for all those she once knew

all the ones who left and grew

leaving her alone for as long as she may live

with no more left to give

not a soul, money, or fame

leaving her to think life’s a game

a game where she loses

and is left with nothing but bruises
