The Edge of Forever

The Edge of Forever

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

The Edge of Forever

I want to go to the edge of forever
Where the sunsets never end
Where the stars shine for eternity
And the angels are my friend

I want to leave this world of hurt and pain
Of destruction and despair
For a place where joy reigns freely
Within the hearts of man

I want to hide my soul
Within the light
Until the world
forgets my name
Until the gates of heaven open wide
And I stake my final claim

I want to hide away
from evil
So the devil never wins
Escape from all temptation
all fear and deadly sin

I want to hide my soul
in God's embrace
Until the stars
fall from the sky

Until my heart heals
from it's brutal wound
And the tears
dry in my eyes

I want to hide
away forever
Until the world
no longer turns
Free from all pain and sorrow
And the lessons
we must learn

Really good write. I like it. But it made me sad because if you were to fade away or escape this world and life then you wouldn't be able to write and share on here. :) I think that it is perfectly normal, pain and battling emotion. Besides what your poem made me think about I think you wrote it well and I thank you for sharing.

Shouldn't friend be friends?

I LOVE this poem. I really really do, it gave me chills. I think what I really liked was that it speaks to all of us, as the human race, when things get difficult or we get hurt, we want to run away and heal, to find some utopian society where everything is perfect. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. An important thing to remember, to never forget, is that it's from that pain life gives you, that allows you to grow.

I say something like this, in shorter form, to myself on a regular basis. To be free from the burden of life would be the great escape, but therein lies a trap, I think. We can struggle with ourselves and the external world and find no happiness, but then again, we might. It is a crap shoot, life. You can work your a*s off trying to make it better, but have no peace. But, then, sometimes, a light shines on you, and the worries and sorrows wash away, and it all seems worth it. You just have to hope those will be the majority of the moments you experience. But still, the thought of being free from this existence is compelling. The dream of freedom is bittersweet.

Yes very true thank you :)
I like this write very much....it is slightly different in poise than most of your work....almost bordering on meloncholy.....an accepting of things past and a longing for what is surely to come. Well done my friend, well done.

True. Thanks for reading.
I found my mind continuing your thoughts' flow. I feel "heavy" inside.

There is a time I like to pause and just sit and BE... stare out into the world. Taste life as it comes.
Sigh... you've kept me here ...thinking and feeling. Take care.

It was. :)
The edge of forever where nature greats us and grants us her bounty. Even in our darkest moments it is important to hold onto that place...even if we can only go there in our minds.

You are welcome.
I've been to the edge of nowhere (It's called Afghanistan) but not to the edge of forever. I think we'd all like to go to that place. I think we do but it's only in glimpses. Good poem Carolann. It's good to see you writing again.
