Valentines day sucks
come on you know it's true
When your siting alone at home
with nothing better to do

You see all the guys out there
buying flowers for their girl
And you wonder what became of love
why it isn't in your world

But then you realise it doesn't matter
that it doesn't mean a thing
All this fuss about one stupid day
and all the pain it brings

Living alone has it's benifits too
no hassles, heartache or pain
Nothing more left to lose
and the whole world left to gain

So don't be sad
if you're all alone
When Valentines Day comes
don't cry or moan

Cause one day love
will come your way
And you'll miss the freedom
of your single days

I hate Valentine's Day too. Not because I'm single, but because of all the bullcrap hoopla that surrounds it.

For me it's Singles Awareness Day. I'm single, I'm aware of it, and I don't give a s**t.

And you're right. It IS safer to be alone. That's why I keep my heart locked in barbed wire and sealed behind a castle wall. Much better that way. Full points from me. Good job. :)

I hope this isn't coming from personal experience. Even when it's comfortable to be alone you shouldn't be. I don't think human beings were meant to be without the company of others.writing from a lonely point of view is a painful thing.but how else could you relate to some of us who are going through the same thing

So very true for so very many, Carolann Dowsett. Although for myself, after having been married for twenty-one years, I wouldn't care to be alone, especially without my wife in my life.

This poem, presented wonderfully in well rhymed quatrains, came across like one trying desperately to convince themselves that having no love in their life was okay, and no big deal. Still, the underlying pain is evident.

I am kind of against Valentine's Day as I think that we should show we love and appreciation for each other everyday. Not always with roses or fattening candy and Godiva chocolates, but with words. I like the point of your poem, as its true we tend to miss our single days. :) Thanks for writing.

We pay a price either way, alone or together but for reasons of our own Valentine's Day drives a stake through both scenarios bringing all the detritus to the surface. Hope sings always in the background. A sentiment held by many.
