The Art of Romance

This is one of my older poems, I hope you enjoy.

I'm only human 
I admit with regret 
Trying to find 
true happiness 

Searching for something 
that may not be there 
Loving the people 
who will never care 

Knowing that one day 
from this I could die
For free love is over 
now the price is too high 

So how do you live 
in a world full of fears 
When there's no point in trying 
and no time for tears 

Where you make a mistake 
and there's no second chance 
Where games have taken over 
the art of romance 

There once was a time 
where love was so true 
Where life had more meaning 
and respect was there too 

But now sex is the game 
on all the guy's minds 
True love's lost forever
destroyed by mankind

Awesome. The pessimism radiates through your words and colors in the pages of the world, and the nostalgia is great as well. This is a very interesting view on romance, and was very fun to read. I like that it also kind of displays a victim mentality,
"I'm only human
I admit with regret
trying to find
true happiness"
as though the condition of being human is holding you back from the sparks and passion and bond that is being searched for. I also love the end,
"true love's lost forever
destroyed by mankind"
because it steals away from the victim and takes some accountability. It shows that whatever has happened to the pure beauty of true love has happened because of those who are "only human". Anyway, all of this is just a really long drawn out way for me to say, "awesome poem, man."

Seems a pessimistic view, I believe instilling hope and steering youth is loves true chance, otherwise I just agree so easily with what you say. You again write so crisp and cleanly here, magic. I enjoyed the write, nice work.

This is a well written poem. It is concise and easy to follow and believe in. Well done, good job!

That said, I completely disagree!

Love was always a thing of games.
True love does exist if you know where to look for it.
Mankind cannot destroy love, because the sole purpose of mankind is to mate, we have puzzle pieces to fit together and we are puzzle pieces. We all just have to find the ones that fit, or if not a perfect fit, we enjoy jamming it in there anyway.


free love is over, because there is no thing as free love. people who practiced free love found that out. They couldn't separate emotions from idealism.

Hmm, very romantic; in every sense of the word, though i think love is something that goes hand in hand with sex, i can see what you mean by sex being a separate thing in a man's mind. Great write.

Yes love and sex should go hand in hand but it seems these days the love part has been mostly forgotten and the sex part had become the main focus in everything. Thanks Inda.

You know this is so true but maybe, not as much as only boys are involved. Sometimes, it's the opposite sex who enticed guys into making it. Then, it becomes so irritating when regret always is the end of the relationship. I noticed that media also influence the actions of people nowadays. TV series would always include sex in some of their episodes without making devotion as the center of affection. Horror movies ALWAYS have sex in them, those that involved a group of teenagers and get murdered and stuff. It must have been better living in the olden days where romance is not so superficial as the present.
