Words

Words

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

Your words cut me

like daggers

pressing into my heart

opening up old wounds

ripping me apart

Tears form in my eyes

a flowing river of pain

Causing blood to pour

from my shattered veins

Broken I fall

into a well of despair

a fragmented being

struggling for air

Murdered by rage

by words that destroy

I become lost in the arms

of an endless void

Your radar is set to kill

your mouth full of poisonous darts

that fly with precision

and always hit their mark

You're a vicious animal

wounded and in pain

but you don’t want any help

you're too dangerous and vain

You think you’ve destroyed me

but from the ashes I’ll rise

You can cut me and bruise me

but I refuse to die

You love to cause pain

make yourself heard

But at the end of the day

they’re nothing but words

words are a very powerful weapon. when you take away their meaning you take away their power. this is a great piece of writing. did you mean "daggers" in the first verse, or was "dangers" intentional...either one is very effective...call it curiosity...?

Your imagery and discription sounds really good, but for some reason doesn't quite line up right in my head. But that's just one opinion, could just be morning. Nothing really sounds too good right now. I'll come read it again after my coffee.

once spoken it can't no longer be taken back....and will always remain buried on the dephts of our mind and heart....distorting our mind and piercing our heart...

True :)
They say words can never hurt you, but what a lie that is.
I can feel the hurt in this poem... so well written! xx

Thank you so much. :)
The actions and words from others say more about them than they ever do to the receiver. It doesn't make it hurt any less, but eventually the receiver sees the mess of the giver. When that realization starts, it is easier to heal and move on.

People can be so cruel for sure.
Words are easily said than putting these words into actions. To which I agree with the last verse of you poem. It can easily hurt people because words can never be brought back once these are unleashed onto someone. It took time for those to be removed from the memories of a person. Everyone has gone through it and your poem speaks of it. Thanks for sharing!

Couplet for couplet, rhyme for rhyme, your words pierce the veil of pretense quite well.

a couple spots i think you meant "you're" rather than "your"--

but wow, this is quite in your face powerful..

and yes, when it all comes down to it...often it is "just words"--

although as emily dickinson said "words have the power to heal, but also the power to kill"

and people, especially significant others, need to think first, then talk.

at the end of the day---a really good write.

Thank you Jacob and thanks for the editing tips I'll take another look :)
oh gosh to be sliced by swords than words anyday..

now this is probably just the perspective my minds been in lately, but for me, this reminds that someone can only really hurt you, if you had/have feelings for them in the first place..

we always have to look at who were directing our anger toward, and why

sometimes its, misplaced, and we're actually angry, at ourselves

maybe for just letting this negativity get the best of us

or maybe its something deeper within, that we need to change of ourself, but thats not the ever the easiest thing to do..

probably not what you were going for but thats okay.. the point is your writing made me feel, and it made learn as well

what more could you really ask for yes

good job here Carolann, and thank you

The power behind the words we say can make or break someone. This was a wonderful piece stating that very fact. Thank you for sharing.
