Hope Survives

Hope Survives

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

Agony endures pain

as life slips away

So sad to see one so full of light

lost in such a way

But the hater’s hated

and the demon’s played

until nothing was left

just loss and decay

I am empty now

nothing remains

You have hit your mark

caused too much pain

Why should I stay

in a world so cruel

Where there is no set limits

and no real rules

The time to give up

has finally come

The cold has set in

my heart has gone numb

Time to disappear

just fade away

Escape from vicious souls

and the games they play

Emotional vampires

feed off my pain

sucking the very life

from my veins

But life has a way

of holding on

and for those I love

I need to be strong

So I guess I'll continue

to fight for my life

For even in darkness

there is a trace of light

Even in the blackest despair

hope survives

It is an eternal spark

that never dies

A beautiful promise

that keeps us alive

you are examining a double edged sword here....the beauty of remaining for those whom you love and the agony of enduring the callous indifference and cruelty of an otherwise untenable situation...both, while balancing your own precarious existence. oh, i have been here too many times and hate where this place is and what it does to the soul. i pray that for this you will endure and become better and stronger....excellent prose herein!

A powerful poem. We must battle many emotions and fears. I like your description and the positive ending. We must see the good in our life. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

Thank you :)
Incredible how you tapped into a much darker side of you and then pulled us out of that darkness and thus pulled yourself out of that darkness. Great job!

It's a constant reminder, that in life...beneath the dire straits of life; we are survivors.
