The Power of a Dream

The Power of a Dream

A Poem by Carolann Dowsett

You came to me last night

an unearthly visitor

entwining yourself within my dreams

softly creeping into the outskirts of my mind

teasing me with visions of love

You laid a hand upon my soul

lured me into your arms

as I floated through worlds created by my own desires

my own needs and longings

You were sweet

I laughed within the circle of your love

a joyful sound emerging from a battered soul

You were warm and inviting

I wanted to entwine myself with you forever

flesh to flesh

soul to soul

to become lost in your embrace

You were mine

though only in my dreams

For one night

we were meant to be

Two souls joined together in loves embrace

disembodied spirits

flying free

through the power of a dream

some of my dreams are beautiful, like this one, and some are terrifying. this is why i suffer the reality of life. if all our dreams were to come to fruition, we may not be so appreciative of them. i shudder to think of the many dimensions out there, beyond our dreams and fantasies...they won't all be so wonderful. such is the duality of humanity. excellent poem!

Thank you. And yes so true, many dreams are better left as dreams.

In my dreams maybe :)
The texture of the poem is so soft and inviting. I love your word choices and the images that you have painted here. I was pulled in by the first stanza and was not disappointed.

Would it be that life would be as wonderful as the dreams we have. Definitely like this one quite a bit.

Thank you and yes if only. :)
Oh Carolann, you made me want to shed tears to such a beautiful and touching poem that you have presented in front of my eyes. I am a sucker for love and I think it's amazing when people have those happy dreams of it too. Back when I wasn't over my first love, Nick, I would have dreams like you described perfectly in your poem. I would dream of us being together, but forever and always. Once I woke up I'd always have tears flowing down my cheeks as I realized that reality has kicked in. This poem to me has so much meaning to it, because once upon a time I could relate so much. Maybe a little bit too much in fact! The power of a dream is marvelous but can be so deceiving most times. You done a lovely job with your word choices and the flow! :)

"You were mine
though only in my dreams
For one night
we were meant to be

Two souls joined together in love(')s embrace ---Add an apostrophe since the noun "love" is possessive of the embrace.
disembodied spirits
flying free
through the power of a dream" ---Two magnificent stanzas! :)

I ADORE ROMANTIC PIECES!!!!

The Exceptional Merit of this piece far surpasses that of a normal poet of love. This tender heart felt write melted my heart as I sat here reading. Making me wish to fall asleep and be with that Enchanting lover. This poem Captivated me in many Ways, and left me as All lovers should be left, Wanting more.

Dreams can be potent things indeed, and grant us the opportunity to live that which in reality may be difficult or impossible. You shared a great picture of a romance pure and true from your dreamscape, it's a shame it couldn't have been a reality. Excellent poem.
