James Merrick, Director General
Department of Environment, Science and Innovation

Hello Mr Merrick,

I stumbled across a F/B page about a wild magpie rescued by a couple Juliette & Reece, from certain death after it fell out of his nest quite sometime ago. The couple then raised it in their home environment alongside their own pet dogs.  The couple named the magpie ‘Molly’.

A true, good news success story of saving an uncaged wild baby bird into juvenile hood & subsequently adulthood   Particularly when the media is frequently airing animal abuse stories.

And to my utter amazement, what do I read on their F/B page ? ……Your employees, clearly vacuous with zero lateral thinking capabilities, were being influenced by a persistent & vexatious complainer to DESI, why??  --> Because this complaining woman didn’t get her way of money demands from the Juliette & Reece, & so in anger,  she got a group together for a serial complaining campaign to DESI. (and I note that the last word of your department’s name is ‘Innovation’)

** Are your employees so seriously brain-dead that they couldn’t think to ask the right questions from both parties & then figure out what this magpie issue was really all about & then TO TELL this deplorable, complaining woman along with her group of dull-witted, serial whinging followers to go away & get a life ??…Very clearly no Innovation is present within the brains of your DESI’s staff.

Juliette & Reece deserve a medal in the eyes of true wildlife lovers!

Personally I suspect this is all about point scoring & teaching people lessons, because the couple I believe did not have a wildlife licence in place at the time of their bird caring. Plus your dept’s belief in the couple making money from their postings/photography, which as they said was never their intention. …..And as the couple rightly said, who dares to ask if well known TV series presenters receive money from their wildlife animal series.

➤➤ Anyway so what⁉️  The magpie outcome speaks for itself.

Your ‘un-innovative’ employees then interfered with the magpie’s happy life, by ordering it’s removal from its current &FREE environment into a CAGED one, to the detriment of the magpie’s enjoyment of life with his friends.

The magpie’s happiness & his learned & proficient survival skills (as taught by the couple) are the only 2 facts about this whole wild bird saga that’s important. ….not the wildlife licence (just money for the dept!) nor point scoring, lesson teaching by your staff, or any other jealousies in having world-wide F/B followers.

You, as the director-general are the Captain of your working world.

If you’re not capable of setting some COMMONSENSE RULES in place for your staff, then either get your act together & put some working common sense rules in place for the animals,  or resign & don’t waste tax payers money by accepting your salary,  as well as dismissing your dim-witted staff member who ordered the removal of the magpie from his happy & free environment.

The legalities of wildlife care should be the beginning basics, but not the absolute inflexible determinant of what happens with any successful, but rules incognisant wildlife caring person/s,  because then the issue is NOT Animal Care but just becomes Legalese & wildlife carers money for a Licence.

Am I angry, yes I certainly am, with the stupidity of the educated twits that are actually paid to work in the bureaucracy.

-->> Place Wild Life first on your animal agenda & not the other way around <<--

Sincerely

Carola Hume
