4. Footnotes  - Nos. & Chapter   --   So, whatever happened to…??

(For added interest I’ve included a few website link references)

1   Memoirs     The company Smithfield Mall Pty Ltd, according to a Sun-Herald newspaper article on 26th August 1984, was liquidated earlier that month, owing almost $AUD14 million.

2   Memoirs      Garry Dent died in May 2017, aged 80.
Garry Dent and Gerry Harvey had been old friends for 50 years.
Garry had solved a problem for Mr Harvey (a major Australian retailer) in 2001 when poor car park access to a Harvey Norman store at Penrith was causing the business to lose money. Garry with his property development expertise became a contractor for the Harvey Norman group of companies for 15 years until his unexpected death.

3   Memoirs    All fixed wing aircraft with side-by-side seating have dual control columns and can be piloted from either side, but the left-hand seat is designated as the captain's seat.

4  Memoirs   Flight Safety International is no longer involved in MU-2 pilot training, this now being done by the Simcom Aviation Training centre in Orlando Florida.

5   Memoirs    Sadly Bill Kelly died from pancreatic cancer in Oct. 2002, aged only 74.
After our MU-2 Pacific crossing Bill Kelly and I kept in touch by mail and later by internet. Some years later Bill made one more Pacific crossing to the East coast of Australia ferrying a much smaller aircraft
from USA to Bankstown Airport (can’t remember what type of aircraft it was).
I was working for JBA Aviation 9  at Bankstown airport as their Chief Pilot at the time, when Bill totally surprised me walking through my office door one day!  We had a long chit-chat of aviation things.
It was while writing these memoirs and researching Bill’s flying background that I discovered he had also been one of the finalists in the NASA astronaut space selection program. Wow!! He made no mention of this to me while he was alive, but I am suitably impressed.

6   Memoirs    During my research I learned that the Globe Aero company was voluntarily dissolved in September 2008.   https://florida.intercreditreport.com/company/globe-aero-ltd-incorporated-474618

7   Memoirs    Philip and Donna Waldman owners of Globe Aero, I’m sure would’ve reached retirement age by 2008.

8  Memoirs      MU-2 Crash in the Pacific 300+ nm off the coast of Cairns (Australia) in 1988

9  Footnotes   JBA Aviation no longer exists, this happens with most general aviation companies, as they are frequently run on very tight budgets. On reflection come to think of it, every general aviation company I’ve ever done flying work for, no longer exists. Before my time, JBA Aviation flying school and charter company was owned by Australian racing car driver Jack Brabham before my employment there, hence the initials JB.

Thank you for taking me along on this recalling of your aviation career. I enjoyed reading about all aspects of it. I've done a few things in life that will never wash out, and I'm pretty sure your days of flying is like that. It was no easy thing--it often required hard work and courage, but the payoff was great pride, sense of accomplishment, and plain ol' joy.
