And will languish for a long time to come, it seems. Hopefully, there is great pressure from all around, including the Chinese government, to stop the goings on at those wet markets. Here in the US, it looks like we'll continue to drop like flies as long as the orange monster is in control.

yes the thought of those wet markets is gruesome, there's no respect for animal life.... barbaric in my eyes!
At first an exercise on how to present words to readers/reviewers: then, the graphics are no longer the high point because the almost hidden words take ove, carefully stepping forward from their background.
It's a more than clever or rather, creative, way of highlighting what's going on in a sad world with nudges of facts and unspoken figures.. we know or should where they come from.. OR, do we? Fine words, fine thoughts.. debate the two and then say thank you, Carola.

I can totally see where you are coming from with this write and under the circumstances understand the passion you express! As a point of interest; Alongside US intelligence officials, the UK are looking into the secretive Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) and its history of mysterious bat virus experiments. This comes amid “increasing confidence” from US officials that the Chinese lab is behind the virus outbreak and not a wet market as originally claimed.
It all makes me stop and ponder the folly of 'men' messing with nature...:-(

my question is why are they playing around with viruses in the first place, what did they plan to do with it ?

then if western governments raised chinese import tariffs & at the same time made a serious effort to resurrected a home based manufacturing industry, then that could, i think, massively reduce china's external income.... giving back a receipt, for their deliberate & thoughtless re-opening of their wet markets.
(quite apart from their insensitive, cruel & quite barbaric animal torture prior to culinary slaughter...why would any person want to visit any asian country anyway, is totally beyond me)

WOW! What an widely-encompassing statement! This goes well beyond the typical shallow blaming commentaries I've read. Here you supply brief mention of motives & pressures that led up to and result from . . . usually missing from the blame game . . . you say, "here we are & here's how we got here & here's what it'll probably look like as we go on" . . . not fomenting like so many others. This is thought-provoking rather than emotional-reaction-provoking, which I very much appreciate for discussions around what this is, how it happened, etc. (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
