I have learned something new today Carola and I thank you for that. I looked up the word upsherin and was delighted to read about this Jewish custom. I can imagine Solly having his first haircut at the grand age of three. Visualising all those curls, clipped and falling to the floor. I wish Solly a wonderful life enriched by the Torah and old customs. A lovely way to remember such a milestone. All good wishes.

hi christine, merry christmas to you & thanks for reading my poem for my great-nephew. i wasn't really expecting anyone to comment on a poem title with unfamiliar words.
the hebrew lettering (with vowels included) above his nick-ame 'solly' reads soloman (from R to L.)
in everyday hebrew writing they don't bother with the vowels. (the dots or dashes above, middle or below letters... i call it morse code!!)
i can only read a teeny-weeny bit of hebrew but only with the vowels included, i can't read cursive hebrew that's got a different appearance again !
