EscapismA Poem by Carmen MorganAn old reflection on a darker time.I am neutered from my lust for life. Out of the shadows my nightmares appear, the ghost of a former me sambaing in front of a mirror. Whispers emit from the air conditioner: "You are worthless" the machine hisses. The insult steeps poison into my blood stream, co-mingling with liquor I hoped would curtail loneliness. Lost, I inhabit a haze of dreams and screens. When I manage to fall asleep, it is to a sunrise lullaby with a chirruping choir. Mid-day, an ethereal gray curtain drapes over my eyes, and I transfix the pain into my maturing brain to heal my broken heart and broken mind. © 2014 Carmen MorganAuthor's Note
