Cut

Cut

A Poem by H.C.Harewood

Even in the dark I can’t hide my scars

Hard and glistening in the pale half light

Trace them up and down my arms

Path upon path of ridged spite

I can feel the questions on your tongue

Taste your curiosity fiery, burnt

But the answers aren’t so hard to find

Mistakes only exist if nothings learnt

A sharp cold blade from my pencil case

A bite of the lip and hold it steady

The warm relief of a swift release

A good girl is always ready

But with the lights out we can pretend

Regardless we’re strangers you and I

So no need to worry to call or to text

Just don’t wake me up to say goodbye

I like this HC it reminds me or should I say, it makes me think of dozens of folk I have met for a moment in time who & who for various reasons obtain some tension relief when self harming. Keep writing. All Good Things, N
