Residue

Residue

A Poem by Carl

She's sixteen

And running scared

For this world

She is unprepared

Fragile broken

And so alone

The hardest thing

Was leaving home

The anger the hurt

The prying eyes

The whispers the looks

And all the lies

The torment the scars

What can you do

The accusations the fall out

Residue

He's twenty one

And life's a dream

But in this world

There are things unseen

The promise the lure

The attractive sin

The love of money

That welcomes you in

The spiral the fix

The feeling's insane

The highs the lows

The crack cocaine

The shaking the sweats

Now seeping through

The tourture the nightmare

Residue

She's thirty two

And drinks too much

Can't get through the day

Says Vodkas her crutch

Life's not how she planned

She'll try to explain

Says Vodka and coke

Help numb the pain

The office the girls

The unanswered phone

The silence the heartbreak

Sleeping alone

No explanations

Words are so few

The cracks the bottle

Residue

He's turning ninety

With his medals on show

Touched by a generation

Who may never know

The horror of fighting

And the carnage of war

Least we forget

What they fought for

The gunfire the beach

The bullets and screams

Comrades and brothers

The visions and dreams

The fallen the maimed

We won't forget you

The poppies the crowds

Residue

What are we doing

Can someone explain

As a result of our actions

Residue can remain

The accusing question

The knowing eye

As a world collapses

And we don't wonder why

History will tell us

That when the die's cast

We have not learnt

From mistakes of the past

Failure to think

About the things that we do

Will mean more hurt more pain

More residue

Wow,
such a beautiful write.
I really do wonder, why we let this all happen.
People are lost,
and we just walk by,
Did the world get that cold?
Did we lose the ability to care?
You have me wondering
i love the first stanza,
how the girl is lost

and the guy with the medals..
that is a sad part..
