Inspiration

Inspiration

A Poem by Carl

Inspiration came to me

In a flowing red dress

"I've come to inspire you

But first I must confess

I'm partial to piano

It sets the mood just right"

And as Inspiration began to sing

I began to write

She sang of a nation's heartbreak

And another nation's greed

She sang for all the children

Who are left alone to bleed

She sang about the violence

That's found in every town

And she called to us as poets

To go and write it down

She sang about the break up

Of a marriage and a home

She sang about the children

Who are left so alone

She sang about the victims

And I could hear their cries

And as she sang in heartfelt pleas

Tears formed in her eyes

She sang about America

And for a generation

She sang with such sincerity

About the woman I call a nation

She sang of her past mistakes

She sang for her alone

And as Inspiration sang

Her words matched my own

She sang for the planet

And that there's just one Earth

And how her rich resources

Mean much more than they're worth

She sang about the climate

The rivers lakes and trees

And how the Earth is dying

But no one really sees

She sang about the future

And all that it may hold

She sang that it is ours to take

And that we must brave and bold

She sang that much had been achieved

But there was still so much to do

And she sang that the mantle had been laid down

For poets just like you

Inspiration finished her song

Heartfelt and sincere

Full of ferver and passion

Full of hope and fear

Inspiration closed the piano

The end of our time had come

Inspiration left the room

Mine and her work done

Just magical............every single line filled with beauty, how right you are calling it Inspiration, for she came alive and turned thoughts to where our thoughts should be, if we can as writers muster awareness for all these things wrong in our world, wouldn't that be wonderful........for people to hear........you are an amazing writer, wise and full of inspiration yourself...........

Fantastic and inspirational... very well-written and played like lyrics to my heart! I could feel the intensity.. flowing with such divine rhythm and rhyme .. so much sadness and truth that has inspired you to write this.. amazing piece. It flooded me with so much emotion.. leaving me breathless in AWE. Thank you so much for sharing this very dramatic writing.. I am left with a picture of a very sad and beautiful women dressed in red next to her piano.. so many stanzas here that I enjoyed that I simply can not and will not pick a favorite! Superb and going to favorites! =)

Inspiration is beautiful. I love your symbolism of "Inspiration". Isn't she the most beautiful creature?

We, as poets, can bring so much happiness through our words. I love how you are able to express that. You define our role as poets so well.

America, the beautiful. Your love of America is admired and you speak so well of her.

This is not only a poem, but also a song. Your heartfelt words touched me as I wiped away a happy tear. You have such talent Carl!

I think that with some poems you nit-pick, and with others you just let them soak your palate and savor them. This is one of those poems. This poem is about the message, and it wields a powerful hammer. It is a powerful hammer we shall require to slow down this express train to disaster or turn it around.

I really liked this man. It has an almost documentarian style about it. Kudos for showing your social conscience. Very nice.

wonderful poem, kind of reminds me of my "poetry soldier" poem i wrote about inspiration from others. your poems all flow very well, so easy to read, and that is nice. great job, i liked it.

:) this is pretty.

a few grammar issues (the plural of poet doesn't use an apostrophe -- poets, not poet's, and the possessive of nation *does* use an apostrophe -- nation's, not nations).

My initial thought was "just pick a subject and don't rant about everything," but then I realized that the real subject here is the inspiration for and job of a poet. The written word is powerful, and it's the world's artists and authors that communicate to people most effectively. Ergo, poets (artists, authors, etc.) have a responsibility to use poetry to inform and influence others.

carl, its a bit cliche, and the spacing could use some work, i am somewhat impressed by the thought and focus,
but i lossed interest because the flow is blocky and drawn out, this has poetential to be a masterpiece
with more time and emphasize on design in form and originality.

Wow, there is actually a few lines I like and if I could I would post them all I would, but that would be me re-posting the whole damn poem over! Crap, this is just beautiful in every way. You just had to pick the right words to truly capture this and you did.
