When Black And White CollideA Poem by CarlThis is where it all began. For Alicia
"What will it take to make you see?, What do I have to do? On the surface I may look different, But I'm just the same as you. I have the same hopes and fears, About this world we're living in. I am still a human being, Although I've different coloured skin. I have a wife and family, Whom I hold very dear. But how do I react, When Josh comes home in tears. "Dad they're calling me names at school, And I don't know what it means", How do I tell young Joshua. About pigmant, tones, and genes?, Do I do nothing about it?, And hope it goes away. You and I both know it won't, Because it's rife in schools today. But racism isn't a subject, In schools it isn't taught. Did Joshua choose to be born black?, So then why is it his fault?. The stupid racist comment, The pathetic racist joke. Breaks the spirit and wounds the heart, As a world goes up in smoke. Racism wrecks a family, I've seen racism divide. Nothing is more explosive, Than when black and white collide. Racism is the issue here, It cannot be denied. Colour of skin doesn't make a man, But what comes from inside."
