Tonight I Dance

Tonight I Dance

A Poem by Carl

In the spotlights glare

I start my routine

Tonight I dance

For marks unseen

Bruises and scars

Inflicted by men

Tonight I dance

For the victims of them

So much preperation

My hands they have bled

As I dance for each insult

That has ever been said

And I'm gripping this pole

Like you've never known

As I dance for each punch

That has ever been thrown

Tonight I'm dancing

For all those in chains

As adrenalin and cause

Now run through my veins

And as I twist

And reach up so high

I'll wipe all the tears

From all those who cry

Kicking and flicking

Remaining focused and strong

My muscles are burning

But I must carry on

Gyrating and spinning

Feeling so weak

But this isn't for me

It's for those who can't speak

My heart is exploding

It beats in my chest

They're depending on me

To give of my best

I slide from the pole

And take to the floor

In a movement that symbolizes

The unlocking of a door

I may be a dancer

The entertainment of men

But I won't be brought

With Pounds Dollars and Yen

I'll dance till I die

Or as long as time will allow

And show my support

The only way I know how

I end my routine

The spotlights on me

Pounds Dollars and Yen

But I don't really see

I leave the arena

Too the applause of men

Having danced for all victims

Because I was one of them
