Chapter One: MonsterA Chapter by Cคɾเภค{♥}There are some similarities, but for the most part it's different. I decided to change some character names. Just two: Skyler= Sabrina, and the old Torrence is now renamed Hannah. I decided to introduce Aiden early, he becomes a important character.Chapter One My eyes flew open in amazement. I was in a… forest? I racked my brain for some explanation to how I got here, but it was impossible. I couldn’t remember anything, at all. A question creeped slowly into my head, who was I? Panicking, I shut my eyes, hoping that would help. Then I let my senses reach out to give me some possible answer. Moss and an earthy smell was all I sniffed. The smell seemed stronger, closer, and I realized I was on the floor. My fingers touched and stroked the ground. I grasped dirt in my hands and felt every grain of mineral. The touch was more sensitive, was it always like this? Were my senses always this strong? A cricket chirped five yards away, the chirping was muffled so I figured it was under a rock. I could hear everything, and surprisingly the forest was teeming with life. Slowly, my eyes fluttered back open, and I thought about getting up. The moment I thought it, it happened. It was like the second I considered it, it came. I looked down at myself and gasped. How did I get this bloody? All over my bare legs were smudges of blood; my thin shirt was soaked with it. The shirt was so torn, it didn’t cover all my skin; surprisingly I wasn’t cold. I looked up to see the trees rustling in the wind, but I didn’t feel as much as a slight caress across my nearly nude body. My hair was whipping my face constantly too. Instinctively I turned around when I heard heavy footsteps coming my way. The footsteps, I strained my ears, were thirty seconds and 2 milliseconds away from where I was. A low growl surprisingly bubbled from my lips, and I walked gracefully towards the footsteps. A young boy entered through the trees. He was built and very tall. He had sandy hair that covered most of his face. And the smell of beer was strongly clinging to him. His brown eyes widened slightly when he saw me, and then gasped. “Jenny, what happened to you?” He came closer to check me out, and a growl from my lips stopped him. “Jenny we’ve been looking for you, for hours! C’mon!” His body was torn between coming towards me, and fleeing from my frightening look. His neck slowly turned around, and he yelled something into the trees. All I could think about was the thick vein on the side of his tan neck. I walked slowly, gracefully towards him. He was immediately hypnotized by my eyes probing into his. I grabbed his face between my hands. Then I turned his neck and striked. He didn’t have enough time to scream. Drinking deeply of the last sacred liquid left I dropped him on the floor and wiped my face. I was too distracted to notice two hands grab my waist and pull me. Then something struck me across the face and I was out. I woke up on someone’s back and I immediately screamed for the someone to put me down. “Calm down,” a sure voice answered. “No, put me down,” I nearly growled. All I could see was the back of the person holding me, and I could tell it was a guy. “If you don’t put me down, I’ll hurt you,” I threatened, though my voice came out in a sing song voice. “You know you’re really feisty- even for a vampire,” he grumbled, and I immediately stopped struggling when he said the word “vampire”. “Vampire,” I squeaked. To my annoyance I was getting a head rush, and my hands dangled below me. “Ah, so you are a new one. Interesting,” he said to himself. I had the sudden urge to hit him across the head with a tree. “I’m not a vampire, and who are you,” I demanded. This guy was just playing with me, I couldn’t be a monster. I didn’t want to be a dark creature straight from a movie screen. Tears spilled instead across my forehead, because of the way he was holding me. “My name is Aiden, and you are a vampire. Why do you think you sucked the life out of two people,” he said sarcastically. Before I could answer he put me down, and I was immediately dizzy by the blood rushing back to my face. Before I could fell, his strong arms held me up. I looked into his blue eyes. He had blonde hair, which was cropped short. He was a little taller than me, and very muscular. “I didn’t suck the life out of two people,” I finally answered. “In fact as far as I remember I only sucked the life of one person. Which is as much as I can remember since I woke up,” I grumbled. He scrutinized my expression and I could feel the warmth creep up to my face. “C’mon,” he said softly and grabbed my hand. I instinctively pulled my hand away. He rolled his eyes, “I’m not going to hurt you, I just need to get you to the coven,” he replied. “Coven,” I asked puzzled. “You’ll see.” Despite my dislike for him, I let him lead me to a small cabin surrounded by trees. When we arrived two girls dropped from the roof. I stopped immediately to look them over. One had very light skin, a light peachy color. Her hair was a long, dirty blonde and her eyes were a dark blue. She was short too, by first glance only four feet eleven inches. The other one was a lot taller in comparison. Her hair was a pretty lustful dark brown, and her skin was a brownish tan color. Her eyes were a light, chocolate brown. When they saw me, their faces immediately became angry. “What did you do, Aiden,” the blonde one yelled at him. “Why, can’t you ever follow rules,” the other one said, throwing her arms up, clearly exasperated. “Will you two let me explain,” Aiden said, angrily. “Oh, this is going to be good,” the blonde one said, throwing a glance at the other and rolling her eyes. “She can’t remember who she is, she doesn’t have any bite marks, and she woke up in the middle of nowhere. Now if you two are smart enough you’ll know what that means,” he told them, annoyance clearly in his voice. “Uh, sorry, but I have no idea,” the tall one said. “Yeah, I’m with Hannah on that one,” the other said. “She’s a true one!” Aiden nearly yelled, pointing at me. When he said it both of the girls gasped and their eyes widened when they looked at me again. “Sabrina, go get Illiana!” Hannah said excitedly. “I’ll be right back,” Sabrina said, and ran inside the cabin. The brown haired girl, named Hannah walked towards me, and grabbed my arm. I flinched at her touch. Everything was so new, too quick for me to process. I wanted to be normal; I didn’t want to be a true one, whatever that was. And slowly coming to my senses I realized I didn’t was to be a killer, even though I already was one. “It’s ok,” Hannah said softly. I shook my head and tears started rolling down my cheeks. “She already knows what she is,” Aiden said. This seemed to answer everything, even to me. “Why, would you tell her,” Hannah said angrily at him. He shrugged and disappeared inside. “He has no respect for anyone. Just because of who he is,” she muttered to me. “So, it is true,” I asked her, I didn’t have to clarify for her to know what I meant. “Yes,” she sighed. “But it’s not as horrible as you think. Were normal, were not dead; just different. Plus, we don’t kill, we just drink. Since you had just woken up, it’s not your fault.” “It was my fault though,” I said stubbornly. Hannah sighed again. “Let’s go get you some clothes to wear.” She grabbed my hand, and this time I didn’t yank it away. We walked in the small cabin, it was dark inside but I could see well. The moon was shining subtly in the window. The kitchen was there directly to our right, and a small living room was to the left. Couches and a loveseat faced a plasma screen T.V. In front of us was a wooden stair case curving to the right, and a hallway going straight ahead. Hannah led me down the small hallway and we walked into a room to our left. In the room there was Sabrina talking excitedly to a young women behind a desk. The woman was beautiful. Her hair was a golden blonde, which shined in the moonlight. It was slightly wavy in curls and reached directly to her shoulder. When her grey eyes looked at me, I immediately felt the surge of her power. She immediately got up and walked towards us. “This is her,” she asked Hannah softly, and Hannah nodded. The woman was directly in front of me and I wondered who she was seeing. A frightened girl, vampire, covered in blood that acted like a skittish animal. Her grey eyes found mine, and they locked for a second. Then she looked away. “Sabrina, Hannah will you find Aiden for me, while I talk to her,” she asked softly. Both of them smiled at me, and walked out of the room. When they were well out of ear shot, she turned to me. “Well, this is a surprise! You don’t know how special you actually are. My name is Illiana, I’m the coven leader,” she told me in a rush. All I could do was stare at Illiana. There was a pause between us, and I finally managed to find words. “Are you like me; are all of you the same?” Her smile faltered a bit, but she recovered. “If you mean vampires, yes. Look, I know what it’s like, but it’s not as bad as you think. Trust me,” she said softly, and stroked my cheeks. “Well it seems pretty bad,” I grumbled, turning away from her touch. She laughed. “Really, it’s not. We can eat regular food, we breathe, and we only have to drink twice a month.” “Why, how am I special? I’m a vampire, I get that. But how is it different for me? What does it mean true one?” I looked away as I asked her these questions; I didn’t want her to see my vulnerability in my eyes. For what seemed like the tenth time I cried. Silent tears streamed down my cheeks, while Illiana put her hand on my shoulder. “It’s complicated to understand how you among others like yourself are special. We all have flaws, but you are a one of a kind. Not just because you’re a vampire, because you have the gene,” she said softly in my ear, yet confident and strong. “Gene,” I asked. I looked back at her, and sniffled. “Every once in awhile a female human is born with a special gene. We don’t know why, random chance perhaps. When this human girl reaches a certain stage of maturity in her life; the gene kicks in and you change. We call it the vampire gene. There has only been a few numbers of changes like this. You happen to be the first in sixty year. The first since me, that is.” With the new information, I suddenly felt tired for the first time I had awakened. Even though I had passed out several different times, I felt the need to close my eyes. I didn’t want to talk about this now. In fact, I didn’t even want to be more of a freak among freaks. I didn’t want to be treated special, because I was a monster. I wanted to remember my human self, and live that life. Not this damned one I had awakened to only three hours ago. “What does the vampire gene have to do with me not remembering, how does it make me special,” I snapped at her. Illiana immediately stepped back from my glare. “It makes you special, makes me special, and every other female with the gene special because were true vampires. We aren’t bitten like the rest of them. No, we were chosen by the stars,” she said patiently. “It’s to protect us that we don’t remember anything from our past to make us want it back. The others are burdened with that, we aren’t.” “How is it a burden to know who you are, to know yourself?” I yelled at her. Before she could answer a figure, I could sense, behind me spoke sharply. “Control yourself, NewOne.” I turned around and found myself standing nose to nose with a vampire that ridiculously resembled Illiana. They had the same face, same features, same cold grey eyes, except their expressions and hair. This one had a silver, almost white hair that was shoulder length. It was also arranged in wavy curls to her shoulder. And unlike Illiana’s patient smile, this one had a cold tight lipped smile that could send any vampire back into the shadows. Both of them were extremely beautiful, of course. “What did you call me,” I asked, unable to keep the sharp tone from my words. “Well, you don’t have a name. What else am I supposed to call you? That’s unless you’re feigning memory loss,” she answered just as sharply. “Ivanna, please. You’re not helping. At all,” Illiana said in an assertive tone. “Of course, sister. I’ll just take the hint and leave you with your special friend.” Her tone was sickly sweet, but it had a menacing meaning underneath her words. She turned quickly around and left the room, with a grimace on her perfect face. “Ivanna’s just jealous. She’s my biological sister, so she has always wondered why I got the gene, and she got the insignificant bite. After I changed, two years later she was bitten,” Illiana explained. “And that’s how you got your name and your identity back. Because your sister remembered and told you everything,” I said quickly. “Ah, yes. Something along those lines. This is hardly the time to discuss it, NewOne. You should rest,” she said gently. She led me out of the room, and out of the hallway. We climbed the stairs, and she led me to a small bedroom, to the far right. When we entered, it seemed completely insignificant. It had a small wrought iron bed on the east wall, a window directly in front of us, and a wardrobe to the west wall. It was quiet for a long time. “There are clothes in the wardrobe already. I’ll leave you to change by yourself, goodnight NewOne,” Illiana finally said. I stopped her before she left the room. “Why do people call me that?” “We call you that, because it’s a special name fore someone as special as you. You may pick a name fore yourself, if it bothers you,” she replied just as she closed the door. Slightly puzzled I rummaged through the wardrobe and found an oversized t-shirt to sleep in. I sluggishly walked over to the bed and pulled back the covers. I immediately felt comforted as the soft sheets caressed my skin, with the silky cotton. I stared up at the ceiling for a long time, hoping that sleep would come soon. To try to fall asleep I counted sheep. Sixty-one, sixty-two, sixty-three…Bah! The sheep didn’t help; they just made me want to bash them with a lawn mower. I wondered, slightly amused if I was always this temperamental. Didn’t that Aiden guy say, “You know you’re really feisty- even for a vampire?” I suddenly became saddened at the new memory. I wish sleep would come, already. Maybe, perhaps this was a bad dream. Maybe when I woke up I would be human and know who I was. I could see the door clearly in my head. Behind it were all those memories, all those secrets just waiting to open. It was just out of my grasp, and even if I could reach it had a lock. Oh, how frustrating this new life was. Sleep thankfully arrived, and the last though echoed in my head: I don’t want to be a monster.
