I Wish You Were Here

I Wish You Were Here

A Poem by Carew

Clouds everywhere around you as you cross the sky,

Disappearing and passing you by.

Yet I stay and watch you go,

Wishing I could give you a gift with a bow.

As you leave me to the dark night,

Your beauty shines with a delight.

I wish you could stay,

But you always take my heart away.

When you disappear with a glow,

I try to go with the flow.

But it feels like something is missing,

Maybe it is just me wishing.

Saying goodbye in the south takes at least three stages. There's the rise and say goodbye followed by the hug and invitation to return. There's the pause at the door to say a few last words and the wave from the driveway and the shouted I love you from the car. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I enjoyed reading this bit of tender longing crafted into poetry. Lovely, F.
