The Crystal PalaceA Poem by EmmaThis is a poem I wrote for an instrumental song I composed. The Crystal Palace As we break through the trees I finally see it, Shining like carved ice, Glittering in the sunshine, It leaves us speechless. What beauty is this that we see before us? Can it be real? Will it disappear, As we approach? A glittering hue encompasses it. We must be dreaming. But no. Majestic towers, Now stand before my eyes, in all their glory. See, we pass through the mighty gates, Over the bridge, and into the glittering halls. They draw us to their mystery. Deeper in, deeper in we go. Down to the caverns, Down to the pit, Into the darkness. There is no beauty here, It is all but filth and pain Wrenching mercilessly at our souls, It will drive us to madness. Wait, finally there is relief, Finally we begin to ascend, Oh sweet, dear light, The cruel agony is at an end. But now that we have seen the darkness, The light is swallowed, Our eyes opened, The eagerness hollowed. For now we see what truly lies beneath, The Crystal Palace. Its outward beauty is deceiving, And its heart is black. © 2015 EmmaAuthor's Note
