Insanity Personified

Insanity Personified

A Poem by Carbon Muse
"

"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." ~ Albert Einstein

"

Like a moth to the fire, to its funeral pyre,

I can't help but singe my wings.

Climbing the spire, higher and higher,

I stay blind to the pain that it brings.

Come heaven come hell, I still couldn’t tell,

with wings, tattered and torn.

My dreams hold me prisoner, under their spell,

as I fall to the ground forlorn.

If it’s madness you seek, visit my hell,

don some gossamer wings.

Step through the portal and ring the bell,

and listen to the sirens song it sings.

Brilliant! I like the analogy of a like trying to get closer to the fire, and someone who is taking risks for a goal.

there is a song by a guy I met when I went to a workshop with Saul David Raye - the singer is Jim Beckwith and the song goes. WE keep doing the same thing, over and over and over and over again. I'm sure it was inspired by this quote. He said some amazing things, he surely was a Pre-first waver, I was a first waver. and I know our efforts to raise consciousness are now not going for naught as I look at these enlightened beings being born everyday, they have come to restore us to the Ones we have always Been, but we Forgot! And we have to by intention come back from our Minds and Live from our Hearts, and the Day of Peace will come, for it is hear in the Hearts to all those who Dream this Dream today, to live in our Heart.

Very nice, we are all captured angels trapped in a spell. that is until we find our peace, that can only be found inside. But it sure is hell til then, I sometimes get caught in a spin, and it takes a friend like you to help pull me through and to know that I am not alone, in my aloneness, here in this strange land that is nothing like from where I come, where all the Children know they are loved. I love to make new words, once that only me and the stars know are real. Have a lovely day,

The moth taken up with flying higher and higher burns itself. So are we authors of our own destruction when we are so taken up with our aspirations that we become oblivious to all else in the world. A brilliant analogy and simple yet elegant wording make the poem a great read.

The moth, much like the mythological Icarus flying on wax wings too close to the sun, is drawn to the one thing that can trigger its demise. Why are people also drawn to harmful entities? We may desperately need to get our wings clipped to save our sanity (or curb our desires). Very nicely written. take care...dan

how many times have we all taken flight to be brought down again. One can only imagine, for einstein to invent a definition for it, must be a problem worth figuring out. very powerful, i can imagine my own drive towards a goal fluttering out, just to strap the wings on and try again. but without wings, how do you fly where you are going, is there another way? maybe walking there, slower but no fire. who knows.

We are so flustered by the insanity of others....yet it often takes a while to see our own....

Thanks! I'm glad it worked out well and that the message is clear :)
I like the metaphor of the moth to the flame representing you and your dreams. I think I've been there too! The rhyme scheme was well executed.
