Red Roses In Her Hair

Red Roses In Her Hair

A Poem by Caradoc
"

"Vengeance is mine", sayeth the loving heart scorned...

"

Far across the field the glint did shine
Of sun kissed tresses, cobalt dresses
And the bitter stain of stolen wine

Above the field the storm clouds gathered
Thunder rumbled and shoulders crumbled
As a sacred trust was shattered

In the fading light of dawn
The Queen despaired, a frozen stare
All she ever knew was gone

And in that field she could not hide
A heart betrayed, nor love decayed
In the shadow of her steel tower pride

For justice the Queen fought
Honor sold, falsehoods told
Oaths her wicked King forgot

Though she strove to forgive the heartless King's lies
Pretty smiles and Queenly wiles
Could not conceal the storm's fury in her eyes

So the story goes
Of a king who sold
His queen's love, cold
And the vengeance that she took
On that foolish kingly crook
When his honor he forsook
Thrown down from steel tower stair
Mistress and king, their broken pallor fair'
Drenched in blood red shine
And the stolen wine
That stained the Queen's blue dresses
Those sun kissed tresses
And the Red Roses In Her Hair...
