i hope you hear my every howl
feel its thunder in the depths of your soul

This reminds me of something from my younger days.

Postcard bought in West Berlin.

Only words,
"Why?"

So close, yet so far away. Makes me think of separation, two souls tethered across the miles, still connected and feeling one another.

A powerful, lonely image -- a call to a lost love, or someone the speaker misses and wishes to be missed by in turn.

Indeed. In a sense, it is the wolf howling to the moon; "if only, if only".
Short and pointed , conveys all the hidden depths and raw emotion. Poignant.
