Withered Wonderland (For Dew)A Poem by CaradocLost without that one thing that is needed...Shades and shadows linger, Dripping down the angry walls, Like so much bloody paint. Evidence of the massacre of Hearts, A maddened queen's cackling glee. It is she who wears the Hatter's cap now. Yet I pity her... Gone are the verdant greens and vibrant hues, Of the treasures to be found; All that once was beauty has tarnished. Laughter ceased and music died, Creatures of awe and fury faded to ash. The silver sword that once was, rusted, slain. Yet I remain... Even as Alice found her way here, Many have come and gone, Lost and found, outcasts of their own dreams. Countless souls have perished utterly, In the wastelands of wonder. Even Neverland has grown old and pale. Yet I am eternal... Miserably so, alone save for my madness, Lingering on with a rusted blade, A crumbled teapot, a ratty hat, And the skeleton of a grinning cat. Trapped in the gutted carcass of a kingdom. The witches of the East, West, and South had it easy. Don't you pity me? The fountain has bled dry, its wellspring emptied. Everywhere it seems, childhood has died, And imagination along with it. Replaced by logic and reality, The worlds have no time for us. I am all that remains of your dreams. And I... I will wait inside this wonderland and wither without you... © 2014 CaradocAuthor's Note
