Saturation Point

Saturation Point

A Poem by Marco A. Valencia

It runs like a river in flood

Soothing the landscapes of my mind -
Parched deserts trade dust for seeds
Their shells bursting from secret seams
And shoot skyward, piercing the earth,
With an instant bloom of floral scents
Covering coarse sand and Barren rocks
With crimson petals and verdant stems.

Outstretched like a river in flood
It swallows the landscapes of my mind
Sweeping the familiar like tsunami waves.
In waters of passion drowning the self
Floating with mattress and lampshade along the way
Without anchor or sail nor rudder tail
The world spins in a drunken dance
Into uncharted terrain

It carves and cuts like a river in flood
Sculpting the landscapes of my mind
Gouging deep canyons of open plains
Winding like veins cut into the earth
Coursing deep into the underworld
Where even in darkness it threads
The life blood of a thirsty planet
Saturating everything with its taste

No wall could keep it; no hand should stop it
It swells like a river in flood
Reshaping the landscapes of my mind
