Caged

Caged

A Poem by Captivating Ink
"

Hope is what will get you through the darkest of days.

"

I know why the caged bird cries

Softly, not with all his might

As his mind pictures what he could have been

Until he was forcefully shut in.

I know why the caged bird sits

His once great silhouette no longer a-flit

In the deepest, darkest corner of his cage

Wishing for the magic of a mage to take him away.

I know why the caged bird has sorrows

His soul doesn’t yearn for a tomorrow

It sits in the warmth of yesteryear

Even he with a heart of stone cannot stop the tears.

But, I do not know why the caged bird sings

Causing magical golden rings

To cast themselves upon the earth

And bring peace to all who long for mirth.

When the moon is high,

The wise caged bird lets out a soulful battle cry

Full of the wonder of the stars and the fulfillment of the moon

Knowing, not guessing, that the cage will be reopened sometime soon.

And for those who lay asleep with undried tears in bed

They unconsciously tilt their heavy heads

Towards the tune of the courageous wishful bird

Who lets his song full of hope be heard.

Stunning, haunting and yet strangely uplifteing....,

'They unconsciously tilt their heavy heads
Towards the tune of the courageous wishful bird
Who lets his song full of hope be heard.'

Oh how 'what could be' teases us while we wade in 'what we have'

Terrific work
