If ignorance is bliss...

If ignorance is bliss...

A Story by Captain Rilen
"

Just thoughts of life and my constant confusion toward it.

"
Tiny droplets of water fall from my hair, my gaze focused upon them. I am in awe of their beauty, these small insignificant drops. As each one falls I can feel my tension simply washing away. The air is cold, yet I feel warm. Warm and toasty, my legs continue to move forward, pressing onwards simply for the sake of it. I love it. The fact that there is no reason for any of this and yet, here it all is! Every minute detail of the world is thoroughly mapped out, complete with engagement of all of the senses. I wonder, why have I been so cynical, so miserable and so drenched in despair? How could I be in a world of such perpetual beauty? The answer is not far away, it slithers out from the back of my mind, spreading itself about my thoughts like cancer. Because for every good thing you've witnessed in your life, something diabolical and indescribably terrible has occurred. Because injustice is constant and our world will never be fair. I grow cold as I have been before. There is no resting from these horrible facts, attacking intermittently in an attempt to completely eradicate my false sense of hope. I wish I could live a lie. I wish I could go through life merely thinking about my day or even just looking forward to the future. My mind will never let me. These terrible truths feed off one another, breeding incessantly in my mind, each thought leading me to another. "Ignorance is bliss", I wish I knew what that felt like.

I like how you've spoken your mind in here. The imagery is spot on. I like the metaphors you used. Favourite lines:-" These terrible truths feed off one another, breeding incessantly in my mind, each thought leading me to another." Indeed, internal thought can influence our senses, they can make us feel warm and toasty even in chiling cold.
Life seems beautiful only if you're ignorant to all these vile thoughts, but isn't that beauty superficial and hollow? These vile thoughts, our sad spells help us crave for happiness. Without knowing sadness, we would never realise happiness.

Imagine if we all just stayed as blissfully ignorant little toddlers who thought that the word revolves around ourselves and everything we needed just appeared by magic.
Unfortunately as we grow older we realise that is not the case at all.
Well written and thought provoking. :)

I can strongly relate to this poem. I have all of the same thoughts and feelings, but have never been able to form them into words. There is so much sadness and misery in this world that it almost becomes unbearable. But the simple fact is this: "you cannot have a rainbow without a little rain."
