Haiku Chain of Apache History

Haiku Chain of Apache History

A Poem by Captain Ugly
"

Apache history of creation in Haiku Chain. Not my belief, but an awsome bunch of stories.

"

 a world truly dark

there was no sun and no day

perpetual night

all creatures could speak

and were gifted with reason

Creation’s keepers

Feathered Tribe stood tall

Eagle was their mighty chief

they welcomed humans

beasts held their own tribe

Dragon sided with the beasts

their chief had no name

beasts hated humans

‘Nature’s abominations’

cutting them down fast

beasts and birds soon warred

human fate in the balance

many creatures died

beasts used claw and club

birds used slings, bows and arrows

Eagle slew Dragon

the unnamed monster

also fell to trickery

as might fears wisdom

men were free to live

and wore feathers in their hair

to honor the birds

Eagle made the sun

a token of love for men

the sun made the moon

all nations flourished

thanks to the great Feathered Tribe

man took his high place

First of all, a work of haiku art, my friend! I loved it. I also love the subject. The Native Americans, I've always felt, were handed a bad deal by the incoming Europeans who took advantage of them. Some argue it was a case of conflicting values, but I think cruelty and greed can only be interpreted in a negative way.

Aho! You've really used the form quite brilliantly to illustrate the history of the Apache people. It also sounds chant like which gives the sense of a drum beat throughout - which of course adds to the Native American feel of this poem.
