A Letter to my Mother

A Letter to my Mother

A Poem by Jessica L Auster

I'm sorry you're the way you are,
It just feels like you hate me.

Ever since you met them,
You've changed.

I hate the new you,
What happened?

They happened.

I want to ask,
What happened to the woman I once knew?

She's not here anymore,
She left about a year ago.

I realize that friends come and go,
But family's here to stay.

I don't want to fade like one of them,
But I think I am.

Am I being replaced?

Because I honestly don't know what I'd do without you,
You were always there for me.

I hope the next time I tell you this,
You're really listening.

I love you,
And I don't want to have to remind you to say it back.
