Distant Stranger

Distant Stranger

A Poem by Jeremy Michael White

Distant Stranger

It ain't been so long

That you have been wronged

It ain't been so soon

That the red spilled off the moon

And you've always craved

To be among the crazed

Haven't you cried?

When your father died

You found out he lied

Yet you ran and ride

To keep yourself pacified

And only to rectify

Did you internally testify

Rolling cadence of thunder

Applause and laughter from under

Raspy sighs of grief

A work of art as a veneer

Rip off the face and see it clear

Disappointment, get out of here

Run away from sprouting fear

The head of a deer

Smiling, frozen in a moment of a year

Distant Stranger

Caught in a stranglehold

Bound by fireplace embers

Being poked and agitated

Inhale the suffocating smoke

Finally allow yourself to cry

Even though you are about die

Distant Stranger

More familiar than you know

Distant Stranger

Filled with love but full of danger
