PrologueA Chapter by CaprisPrologue
Matthew tried to hold his breath. His heart hammered against his chest. This wasn’t how this was supposed to go. Being trapped like an animal had never been part of the plan. He took hold of his knife felt the hot sticky wetness make it slide in his grip. The floor creaked above him and a shadow passed over him. Thick soled boots on rickety floorboards. The only exit was the door they had come in through and unless invisibility
magically became a possibility in the next three minutes, that wasn’t going to
be an option. He let his eyes close and breathed in the dust, mold, and plant
smelling air. It was over. He leaned back against the corpse leaving prints and
not caring in the slightest. It hardly mattered now. The blood loss made his
head spin and his eyelids heavy. “Matt,” Anthony called out, voice steely and cold. Fantastic. It was the end of the line and that a*****e couldn’t
even get his name right. Was Matthew really so hard to say? He tried to get up, determined to go out fighting. A glass jar fell
from the table sending the overwhelming smell of honey sweeping across the tiny
space. The loud crashing sound made the hunters above pause. Then the cellar door banged open and the click of a gun was heard.
