Plans for the PartyA Chapter by Ollie

Wright & Co. Law Offices, 3:00 PM.
“Nick! Nick!” Maya called into the empty hallways of Wright & Co. Law Offices. The building was absolutely silent, other than the sound of Maya’s panting after running around, handing people invitations. The invitations were for a new year’s party, set at Nick’s own house. They had invited Lotta, Larry, Detective Gumshoe, and of course, Mr. Edgeworth. Going to Mr. Edgeworth’s house was uncomfortable for Maya; he looked much too relaxed and laid-back, not like his usual stiff and formal self. Maya couldn’t exactly explain what she thought of him at the time. All she could come up with in her head was ‘Mr. Edgeworth’s lookin’ pretty hot today,’ and that was really saying something considering how Mr. Edgeworth usually acted ‘jerk-like’ and defensive whenever they saw him outside of his house. But today was different. In fact, Maya couldn’t stop thinking about him.
Maya, you idiot! Stop thinking about Mr. Edgeworth! she ordered herself, Focus on what’s on your hands right now! Maya agreed with herself reluctantly and turned her attention to what was around her.
“Nick! NICK! Where the heck are you?” she screamed loudly. Her voice echoed throughout the whole building. She searched every nook and cranny, but still, Nick was nowhere to be found. Maya gave up and headed back to the office room, only to find a surprise waiting for her there.
“BOO!” Phoenix jumped from behind the door, startling Maya.
“Nick, you idiot! You nearly gave me a heart attack!” Maya shrieked at a laughing Phoenix.
“Sorry, I just thought that after all this tension from the past three days, we should just lay back a little,” Phoenix managed to get out after his noisy giggling ended. Maya frowned at him. “Really, I’m sorry. Anyways, how did the invitations go?”
Maya took a seat in the blue leather swivel chairs and spun around. “Not bad,” she said, sounding drunk after all the spinning, “Larry was an airhead as always, but everyone said they could come.” Well, Mr. Edgeworth said he couldn’t at first, but that was taken care of, she said to herself in her head.
“That’s great!” Phoenix said joyfully. He smiled broadly and helped Maya up and out of the chair. She put her hand to her forehead and stumbled around clumsily.
“Remind me to never do that again,” Maya said. Phoenix chuckled and grabbed a yellow stickie note. He took a pen and began scribbling down some words.
“Well, we should really start getting everything we need for this party. We need streamers, confetti, beverages, food…”
“You mean cheeseburgers,” Maya corrected.
“Right. And of course, party favours,” Phoenix finished up his list and stuffed it into his back pocket.
“Can I have a copy too, Nick? It’ll be faster if we split up to buy things,” Maya suggested. Phoenix nodded and hastily scrawled out another list.
“Well, what are we waiting for?” Maya said as she took the note. “Last one to the car buys me a burger!” They laughed, and before Phoenix could yell ‘No fair’, Maya was already up and out of the room, eagerly waiting to head to the mall.
