Dear Mr. Short:

   The Attorney General's office has asked me to respond to your letters received in this office on January 8, 2012 regarding a request to press charges against Correctional Officer Perez and on January 12, a report of alleged child sexual abuse in the home of another inmate.

    Alaska's Department of Correction is responsible for the investigation into your complaint of CO Perez through its internal prison grievance.  The Department has a formal grievance process that enable all inmates, without the threat of reprisal, to formalize his request and to seek a solution to the problem.  You should direct your inquiries to :

```Superintendent Debbie Miller
```Anchorage Correctional Complex
```269-4100
   In Alaska, all criminal prosecutions require that an investigation be done and the Department of Law does not employ investigators; it relies on the troopers and local law enforcement officers to investigate allegations of criminal activity.  You should forward your concerns directly to:
````Anchorage Police Department Headquarters
````4501 Elmore Road
````Anchorage, AK 9950
````Main Number: 786-8500
         Sincerely,
          MICHAEL C GERAGHTY
       RE: Ombudsman Complaint A2012-0416 (Closed)
Dear Mr. Short
     I am writing in response to your complaint againist the Department of Corrections (DOC).  You complained that DOC had not provided you with a Quran and had not responded to your appeal of classification.  You contacted our office for assistance.
In this letter, you mentioned you would like a Quran.  If you would like the ombudsman's office to look into this issue, you must file a cop-out, grievance, and appeal, and then if you feel they aren't following policy, procedures, or regulations, fill out a complaint form and include copies of all of your paperwork.
Regarding your classification, I reviewed th Administrative Segregation Hearing Form from your hearing on 03/08/12.  I see that you have another hearing scheduled on 04/05/12.  At this time, you can raise any concerns or objections you may have.  If you disagree with the committee's decision, you should follow the appeal process either up to the deputy commissioner or up to the director of institutions, depending on the type of classification ( see P & P 760.01)
If you disagree with the FINAL DECISION by the Department of Corrections, you may send us a complaint form (found in the law library) expaining why you believe the decision is wrong and enclosing a copy of all of your paperwork concerning the issue for our review.  Please note that the ombudsman WILL NOT review complainsts about classification without copies of the relevant paperwork including the final decision.  We strongly encourage you use the complaint form available in th elaw library, in order to prevent a complaint from being closed because we have not recieved all of the information we need.
in regards to the information you requested be passed on to the office of Children's services, we are unable to make a Report of Harm on behalf of another individual.  You can write or phone OCS at :
Office of Children's Services
anchorage Regional Office
323 E 4th Ave
Anchorage, AK 99501
907-269-4000
While you did not mention what city this abuse occurred in, I also suggest you attempt to phone the police if you are not sure your letter was sent to them.   The Anchorage Police Department number is 907-786-8900
Your compla8int with our office is now closed,m but I hope you find this information helpful.
         Sincerely,
         ________
