Shadow Play

Shadow Play

A Poem by Kaspar Carr
"

The shadows are safe

"
In the dark, I fell
Beyond the reach of all light
Awaiting the day to be released from my cell

Caged like a bird and chained like the beast
Bleeding out an open canvas, withering away
Enraged shadows upon my heart they feast,
Slipping, fading, disappearing more with each passing day

Broken souls, memories steadily pass
Howling spirits, screech like nails to glass
Clawing, scratching, fighting to survive
The heart has flat lined, no longer left alive

No more breathing, it's all gone away
But the cage remains and the chains are here to stay
Still the shadows linger with the soul they play
