My Favorite Philosophers

My Favorite Philosophers

A Story by CandydThoughts
"

Great people who helped me cultivate who I am today.

"
People who have taught me.
I would like to write down a list of Philosophers/Writers who I have great admiration for. Though I probably have about twenty more people I can name, these people have taught me how to conduct my life in a meaningful way.

Aristotle.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
He was probably my first philosopher that I took interest in way back when I was around ten years old. I found him to be the foundation on my core beliefs on how I should conduct myself. I really am in awe that there was such a great thinker in classical times. If you even just scroll through his quotes they are just packed wisdom cookies.

Plato/Socrates.
"By all means, marry. If you get a good wife, you'll become happy; if you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher." -Socrates
"Love is a serious mental illness" -Plato
I had to put these two together because more or less there teachings made me love early western philosophy. I believe we can all relate to the things both these people had to say about life. I do believe that there teachings are a truthful basis on how humans are. If anything Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates. They are the ones who peaked my interest in philosophy.

Friedrich Nietzsche.
"To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering."
Though this is a man who was not without his own faults, and I believe a huge pessimist also. He is probably the person who helped me understand a lot of things about pain and suffering. Mental and physical pain is inevitable in life. Life is truly unfair and cruel. His teachings have taught me to remember that you should wish that suffering happens to you. Because it either changes you into a meek person or you can heal and grow stronger from it. I was at my lowest point when I started really reading his writings and I have to say it really has made a impact on how I think now. I do really enjoy his work on straying from the herd mentality also. Very great thinker I believe he should be a must read for everyone.

Jordan Peterson.
"Don't compare yourself with other people; compare yourself with who you were yesterday."
I believe he is probably our best philosopher who is alive today. Every time I listen to one of his lectures or read his books I feel like I was punched in the face by wisdom himself. Even though I feel like I haven't really scratched the surface on learning who I am inside. He is the one who really made me think about everything, like deeply contemplate for weeks about it. He also instilled in my head that I should stop casting blame on people who I thought wronged me. If anything learning that made me feel like my shoulders carried less weight. I just started realizing most of things happened because I made it so, and when it didn't work out I blamed other people because I was hurt. He has great teachings on how to stop wasting your time, and also controlling your dark side. This man is who I aspire to be in a mental standpoint.

Corey Wayne.
"You need to read my book ten to fifteen times!"
My relationship coach. This man taught me how to be his signature "3% Man". And yes coach I have freaking read your book fifteen times. Corey teaches about dating, relationships, and how woman think. He taught me that woman tend to be more emotional thinkers rather then logical. Even though I thought I had understood dating and relationships. It took me to fail at mines to realize I know sh*t. He pointed out all these mistakes I did in my previous relationship and just how much I did not know anything about the opposite sex. I really think he should be a must read for every guy who is married or in a relationship. Awesome content and information.

Wayne Dyer
"Self-worth comes from one thing - thinking that you are worthy."
I honestly do believe Wayne Dyer has made me cry more times in one setting then any other person. God what a amazing human being. I do not even want to disrespect his teachings by even trying to write it out. If you have gone this far listen to one of his lectures you will not regret it. Out of all the things I did to try and not be so sad and depressed he is the one who really got me out of my rut. "Be ready to let go of the thing you love the most". He taught me to truly let go of the people who I didn't want to lose. I never felt so free knowing that I still love the people who have left my life. It brings me great joy knowing that when I think of people I care about I do not compare or get jealous I only wish them happiness. Probably my favorite optimistic philosopher.

Ayn Rand
"The truth is not for all men, but only for those who seek it."
My favorite female writer and philosopher. Though she is shrouded with a lot of criticism, for me she is probably one of the best writer that came out of this world. You have to admit that she really did care more for about the individual rather then the herd. I agree on a lot of things she preaches about, but disagree to some things she says on love.

Sun Tzu
"He will win who knows when to fight, and when not to fight."
If it is mandatory for generals and world leaders to read his book then most likely it has some wisdom to it. There is no denying that this book is a must read for everyone. You can implement his teachings in your daily life and not step foot in a single war.
