Ansley part 1

Ansley part 1

A Poem by Camryn Jeter
"

The person I always looked up to the most, who I always needed to advise and guide me, broke down in front of me. For the first time, she needed ME.

"

Cold, sarcastic persona dropped

Opinionated words silenced

Dominating eyes made vulnerable

Unfiltered thoughts quieted.

Her heart opened

It spilled out before me

Her worries, hopes, fears poured out like water.

She was everything she hadn't been in years-

everything she hadn't been since the last time she cried.

She was a hurricane and I was in the eye.

Suddenly, I was a child again

looking, staring at my older sister

My role model

My ambition

MY rock

And I watched the strongest person

I'd ever known, stronger than any

redwood or ox or fortress

Shatter.

And so did I.

Author's Note

Camryn Jeter
I am aware that I start sentences and lines of poetry with the word "and". While it's not grammatically correct, it is sometimes used in literary works to emphasize the next line of poetry or the next sentence. That's why I use it like that.
