A Letter From a Dead Friend

A Letter From a Dead Friend

A Poem by Jerome

Late this morning,
upon waking
I found at my bedside
a letter
from a dead friend

“Let me go, I am dead.”

It read, in such elegant hand
all of the wonderful things I wish my friend had said
before death embraced
written on such a clean page
I swallowed the letter whole
So I would never be without my friend again

This has a noble honer about it, sort of Roman, maybe even Victorian, but this would be something you would read out of the pages of Mr. H. Hornblower.

Very powerful piece. The literal and metaphorical does a dance here that makes the piece all the more relatable. The raw emotion is conveyed with a wonderful intensity. Very nice writing.
