Look Upon Them - Remember the Holocaust

Look Upon Them - Remember the Holocaust

Look upon them, the ones that are now dead.
The young ones, the grown ones, the old ones.
Remember those shot down in the head,
Slaughtered with the brutality of guns.
Remember those still alive with us today,
Having to suffer through the memories of before.
Wishing that they could get away,
From the memories that hold them down to the core.
They should have never been, should have had mercy;
Have mercy on them, have mercy on us!
We are all the human race, no other, see,
Even if some of us cuss.
If there must be more genocides the human race must hinder.
Look upon them, the ones from before, and try to remember.

I think you may be referring to the Babi Yar massacre of 1941, when the Nazis killed 33,000 Ukranian Jews in two days. Now I hear that the Babi Yar memorial in Kyiv has been damaged by Russian rockets. I believe the human race is evolving, but sometimes that belief gets severely challenged.

Sometimes I wonder if God was crazy to give us the intelligence to create the terrible things we do. It is said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I fear what the next world war will mean.

Yes, I agree. The unknown future is quite a scary thing. Thanks for commenting :)

Even after all these years, the world still hasn't learned to care enough about this. A very impactful piece.

For the second line, maybe middle-aged instead of middle? Or "the grown ones"?
