Life as I know it

Life as I know it

A Chapter by Cam
"

And so it begins...

"

"Most of our life is a series of images. They pass us by like towns on a highway. But sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens. And we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever

                   -One Tree Hill

She placed the baby in the play pin with the others. "Someday you'll understand I hope you forgive me but this is what's the best for you. I love you, Casey." She leaned into the pin to kiss my cheek, gave me one last tender look, and then she was gone.

My alarm woke me from my dream, the same dream that had been haunting me for a year now. The same dream that had finally made since when I'd found out that I was adopted.

My life had always been pure chaos rumbling just beneath the surface of something that looked so perfect. No one knew what it was like behind the solid doors of my house. That is, atleast, until I'd ran away from home and moved in with my Godmother.

My life had changed drastically since I'd moved in with my Nanny. She and my mother, although sisters, were so dramatically different. My mom, never missing a day, would pass out on the couch in a drug induced slumber. Never caring who was left to clean the mess up. My Nanny on the other hand was up every morning makeing sure everyone was happy.

I could hear birds chirping outside my window as I climbed out of bed and made my way to my bathroom. I had to get ready if I wanted to make it to the airport in time to meet Dani.

Dani was my best friend and quite possibly the only person in the world who knew everything about me. So of course I'd been exstatic when she'd decided to move back. It just worked out that my Nanny and uncle were going on a world tour. Oh. Did I forget to mention that they were proffesional singers? Very popular, very rich, christian singers.

    "Hey, sleepy-head. How'd you sleep?"

I sat down across the breakfast bar from where she stood. She pushed a bowl of coco pebbles towards me. Placing the newspaper down on the counter she gazed at me, giving me her full attention.

   "I had that dream again..."

   "Oh? Anything new?"

"No, just the same dream as always."

"Mmm" she mumbled as she sipped her coffee.

   "Nanny?"

   "Yes?"

"Why do you think she didn't want me?"

"Oh, sweetie, I'm sure she wanted you. I'm sure she has a very good reason for what she did."

   "How do you know?"

She walked around the bar to reach and pull me closer for a long hug then pulled away to look me directly in the eyes. "Because I can't think of one thing that would make her give you up willingly."

   "Thanks, Nanny."

"Anytime, sweet girl. I have to go. have a nice day and call me when you get back from the airport."

"Definetly." I turned back to my ceral.

   "And Casey..."

   "Yeah?"

   "Remember...you can do all things..."

   "Through He who strengthens me."

She smiled, "I love you." She quickly kissed my forehead then headed out the door.
