There are fights

There are fights

A Poem by Marlee Rosoff
"

Battles, always, but most painfully- with oneself.

"

There are fights

Wars that are long and bloody

No lives spared

The news blares

Angry letters to the president

Bring our troops home

There are fights

Groups torn in pieces

Friendship an element of the past

Smiles plastered and feigned with no dignity

Gossip dripping from people’s tongues

There are fights

That never end

That cause years of pain and agony

And no one can remember exactly why

But they’re too afraid to admit they’re wrong

There are fights

Sitting in a white walled room

You won, but you still lost

Because you were the only one fighting

With yourself

There are fights

From behind blankets of shame

People come out and scream there names
Telling the world how they feel

They are against every heart that beats

There are fights

No matter where you go

Or what you run away from

You end up back where you started

On fire, fighting, set me free

You beg, but no one’s listening

Because they’re all fighting themselves

To stop the wars they’ve created
