Favorite Moment

Favorite Moment

A Poem by CallieWVU2
"

A true account...sometimes you don't want the answers you get

"

“What’s your favorite moment?” My legs were tucked
Underneath me, and I could feel my eyes shining
Because I thought I knew what she would say,
A favorite fairytale retold time and again to a child.
She thought long and hard, and I could feel my eyes burn,
Until her blue eyes flashed up at me,
As if I were a great friend.
“I was showing Duke and I knew we wouldn’t win, but we did,
We won first place.”
I didn’t know how to cover my surprise;
My jaw grew heavy
But I wouldn’t let it drop.
Her smile then grew bigger,
“Did you think I’d say having you?”
Somehow I managed to ask,
“Well do I even rank?”
She laughed at me.
“One day you’ll find out that being a mother
Isn’t all that great.”

Hm... A short, but strong piece. It's disheartening that a mother would ever say that to their child, but s**t happens. And you've got to find a way to drop it and move on. Great read nonetheless =)
