I Knew Him/Black

I Knew Him/Black

A Poem by CallieWVU2

It was him, the black hair,
Black eyes, dark skin.
I knew the way he liked his
Coffee in the morning,
The way he brushed his teeth
And gargled mouthwash.
He slept on the couch most
Nights because I hated his snores,
The way he wheezed through his nose.
I knew the way he made love always
Slowly, because sex was fast,
And f*****g was even faster.
I knew the way he spoke to me,
The way his voice became different
But only for me.
I knew he meant every vow and every word.
I knew him…
His hair was black,
His eyes black.
