Unrequited LoveA Story by C>CFrom the corner of my eyes I can see you at the other side of the room. Your glowing smile, and brilliantly loud laughter that fills my ears. Your circle of friends that tussle you hair. I like you, and I like your ideas. I love how you can talk for hours about your passions, and how excited you get about certain interests. When you smile, I can feel my cheeks turn pink. I wish you could smile at me. It's embarrassing when I catch your eye, I always tend to hide. My nervous laughter must be unappealing, I'm sorry. You catch me looking in your direction and wave. Butterflies and icky stuff carpet my stomach lining. My friend giggles and pushes me in you direction. She's probably had to listen to my endless parade of affections. I take hesitant steps. But I'm next to you. And you're next to me. My face is red. Yours is slightly flushed too. You smile as you reach to take my shoulder. Introducing me to your friends. They smile and punch you. Laughing happily together. It is almost awkward. Scratch that extremely awkward. I can feel myself tense up. Momentarily zoning out and feeling my breathe catch, I panic. Then I snap back. They are asking me questions. But I didn't pay attention. They laugh and call me a spazz You ask about the school assignment you missed. I tell you. You leave with your friends. She comes from behind and taps my back. Maybe next time? Yeah, maybe.
