The Bird

The Bird

A Poem by Caleu Andrade
"

Another perception while in Iraq.

"

The bird hums through the sky its wings spin with fury.

Like a lion stalking its prey its thirst for life rattles in the blistering heat bouncing off the glistening grains that cover my path of no return. Silently it scours the landscape for the one flower that will feed its veins. The snap of a jaw brings joy of tears to my eyes knowing that we have torn the very poison from its very roots. Only to fly through the air in complete lack of gravity I find my calling, my meaning to the reason I have planted my limbs in this implantable dirt. As my body sits in mid air I see my past running beneath my feet. I try, to harness my spirit before it slams into the dust only catch my thoughts escaping my helmet as it spills into the cracks of my fellow man my water dissipates into the humid gas we call oxygen.
