MidNight Star

MidNight Star

A Poem by Caleu Andrade
"

I wrote this piece after loosing a High School friend I had lost while on tour with him in Iraq.

"

Desert boots trailing this forbidden land, desert eyes scanning this oasis's filled with sunken cavities.

Across the ocean your loved one sleeps in the city with turmoil and fear not knowing what it means to see hell and shake the hand of the god as the iron rain rattles your open cage.

Tears to sweat

Sweat to salt

Salt to grains

Grains to feet

Feet to coffin

Coffin to dirt

Dirt to sky

Sky to stars

Stars to heaven

Only to wake in the dead of a nightmare

Rashes to soul

Soul to heart

Heart to mind

Mind to numb

Numb to reality

Reality to fiction

Not knowing how to except

Excepting to try

Trying to survive another war

War engraved into my nerves

Nerves twitching

Twitching to escape

Escaping to live

Living to die

Dying not to recall

Recalling what was lost

Losing precious time

Time ticking behind my lens

Lens cracked behind a smile

Smiling hiding the fear

Fearing the past

With my scaled hands I held you

With my mouth I inhaled your last breathe

Your blood draining through my pours

I think of our last laugh

Your words now in me

I take it with me

Hoping to spread the message of the diamond lost in the sand.
