A Poem by Caleu Andrade

A silent cry as a bullet cuts through the night. Beautiful smile, hidden behind a secret. Soft words echoing into an empty room as the crowd cheers. Good day sir, thank you for your service breaks into my view. Meaningless love, dressing your unhealed wounds. I took you there to the place where my mind rewinds like a broken watch with a forgotten time. With my blood stained ribbons on my chest I walk proud as my fellow brothers sleep within the endless rows of withering flowers etched with the lasting memory of what was never said. 2002, 2003, 2012 numbers in my head of those we never speak of let alone see. To the true Americans we say a silent prayer as the wanna be check our ID. Have a great day mr so and so welcome to my pressed ABU that has never felt real pain, real fear. Taps playing as the sun goes down everyone stopping without ever saluting the true unseen heroes. Nothing to me, nothing to you I say with a nod and a smile you tell me about adventures of things that never changed a life, made a man scream as he closes his eyes whispering to a god he prays he will never meet. Torn words, miss matched beats to the true desert warriors I drink to thee.
