'Beauty' Kills the GirlA Poem by Caleb W.It seems that today, young women are continually subjected to an unrealistic picture of what beauty is and how they should look. Are we asking girls to disappear with clothing sizes like double zero? You're fat You're ugly You're face is wrong You're skin, too pale You're nose, too long She knew herself this way She looked into the portal Searching for a reflection An injection of perfection A perception, That she fell short in every way Was all the murky waters would show A ripple spread from a tear that broke its surface As she fell inside the bowl It was the subtle claw that snared her Crying, here lies beauty emaciated But here lies beauty assassinated By the desire of a few sick boys Live up to it So she skips lunch and chokes out dinner Waiting for zero to fit her And love becomes a bed But bed becomes a s**t A toy he had his way with And always the whisper Disappear, Disappear Stupid w***e Disappear If zero was nothing then what is zero doubled A pair of jeans with makers untroubled By a message they smuggled In the girl white-knuckled On the grip of a gun Aimed at her identity Loaded with insanity Primed with vanity Her finger is on a trigger she never knows she'll press The portal's mess has dressed a life taker as a beauty maker And faker it has never seemed But good enough for Seventeen And at fifteen all she cares about is there Inside the portal She ran after painted poles Who never knew their roles in her life Who never knew she could die At their own skin-clad bone hands At Hollywood's demands That a girl be something she can't She pulls the trigger © 2013 Caleb W.Author's Note
