Opportunity Unlocked

A Story by Courtney
"

150 words, for a flash fiction contest...kind of childish, but I had fun.

"

Darren walks up to Clarissa, unnoticed, and smiles. Winter formal is approaching. He’s about to ask, but his words won’t work, calling courage that just won’t come.
She, rummaging through her bag, oblivious to her surroundings, slams her locker shut. But it rebounds, hitting her hard in the face. Her eyes immediately close; her hands cup her face, warm blood seeps through her fingers.
Darren rushes up, his hands around her, "You alright?”
Tears well up, "I'm havin’ a bad day." Her quiet voice is hardly heard around her hands.
He closes her locker, latching it perfectly. "You just gotta be gentle with it. Here, let’s get this cleaned up."
Warm water, soft cloth, delicate application, Darren cleans her up. “Thanks, I must look like an idiot.”
“Nonsense, you’re beautiful.”
“You think I’m beautiful like this?”
“I think that you’re beautiful, always.”
“Darren, what are you doing for winter formal?”

Haha this was generically cute. I mean, we all love those little bits of happiness, no matter in which form they come in. =]

I think you did a wonderful job of Flash Fiction. You brought us into the scene and held us with lots of visual language. I could feel the action. Very good. Zee Zee
