Empty

Empty

A Poem by CakeSmooth

I'm dead inside
My soul has expired
My heart doesn't beat, only pump
My mind is no tree, just a stump

I'm under a spell
Calmly walking through hell
Full of secrets that I can't tell
Full of lies that I can't sell

I can't connect
Only intersect
I'm full of regret
And retrospect

I'm watching the world through a dead mans eyes
A student of history, I'm rarely surprised.
Outside looking in
No noise just a din

End it! End it! One might think.
But how can it end when it never began
Finish a race that you never ran
with the knowledge that you weren't part of the plan

Yet I'm grabbing at life
It just slips through my fingers.
It falls away like the sands of time,
Forms mountains around me which I cannot climb

So here I lay, entombed.
Doomed!
Here I wait, here I'll be
Forever lost in history
Not quite forgotten but rarely remembered

I'm old school. I like endings.
