Bottled Promises

Bottled Promises

A Poem by Katy Knight
"

"Promise you won't forget me, won't you?"

"

When you look at me, what do you see?

I’ll tell you what I see when I look at you.

I see hate and despise. But I don’t know why.

What did I ever do wrong?

I could write you a poem or apologize, but nothing would ever change, would it?

I see your eyes when you turn to me, so accidentally.

Then you turn away like I’m burning a hole through your soul.

But I don’t know why. And I never will, will I?

I still remember when you held me, laughing so loudly.

Do you remember those days? Or have they just all drifted away.

Those memories cast into a bottle, corked up and thrown away;

forced to swim along a sea of black, for a hundred nights and days.

You will never again search for them, will you?

I guess I have to move on, nothing can change how you feel.

But nothing can change how I feel either.

Goodbye, my beloved darling so rare, I will never find another you.

Promise me you won’t forget me, won’t you?

It was originally going to be a story, but it somehow (I don't know how) turned inta a kind of poem. Any good?

Interesting how we all find that one person that we won't forget, but seems to easily forget about us. Undone promises that are left for the wind to take away. But perhaps its for a better tomorrow.

Good job. I especially enjoyed the ending lines.
